BEST YOU EVER HAD review - Booby trap
(Reviewed by Melody Werner)
Best You Ever Had is a 2019 trap rap track from Houston-based Megan Thee Stallion's electric debut album, Fever. While my review of it was overall glowing, there were a few songs which slightly disappointed me when compared to the tracklist's high points. High points like Best You Ever Had--which was my favorite song off the album (which it remains) and was begging for a review of it alone.
BYEH boasts all of the hallmarks of a great Megan Thee Stallion song; her irresistible sass and hedonistic personality, a fantastic trap beat, and simultaneously hilarious yet badass lyrics. Fever is chock full of overtly sensual songs, but BYEH is top of the pile in that regard. And not just thanks to the lyrics, but also the beat which fits perfectly. The bars in this are eminently quotable and instantly legendary--"I got that hardcore but he want that R&B" being one of the wittiest in all of Fever. Megan's distinct voice and flows further elevate the track to perfect status, and lend it boundless replay value. I mean, I can listen to this back-to-back nonstop and never get bored of it.
Best You Ever Had is Megan at her sauciest and most fun. If she can keep building on successes such as this, we'll have a GOAT rapper in Megan Thee Stallion. Best You Ever Had is a fitting name for a terrific song like this. And so, Best You Ever Had gets a 5/5.
Fantastic
Summary:
A killer track from one of rap's rising stars.
