Webcomic Rundown #3 - CODE ADAM, ASSASSIN ROOMMATE, QUEEN PEGASUS

(By Melody Werner)

3 WEBCOMICS

3 EPISODES

3 MINIATURE FIRST IMPRESSIONS

__

Hey, everyone, so a new segment here that I'm bringing over from Comic Versus. Albeit this one's been heavily revised and streamlined.

Basically, I'll pick three comics on Line Webtoon. They all have three "episodes" respectively to gain my interest. I will then report my findings to you and let you know if I would continue reading them (full thoughts to come in full reviews, if I do follow through with a series that was initially spotlit here). I'll also be dropping three recommendations for webcomics I've already decided I enjoy and would recommend. So, without further ado...

THIS IS SOOO ANIME

#1 CODE ADAM by Atterozen 👍
Code Adam is extremely anime, but I don't see that as necessarily being a problem because it's actually pretty good at that. The art is suitably flashy and mixes a more traditional anime aesthetic with the chibi expressions well, the humor is charming, and the story seems to have some there there. I wouldn't call it a banger as I'm not ecstatic to read more, but I respect it. If you're into this sorta thing, I suspect you'll get a big huge kick outta it.

#2 ASSASSIN ROOMMATE by Monica Gallagher ✋
Assassin Roommate is overwhelmingly popular, and in a way I can understand why that is. There are things to like about it, at least on a conceptual level, like that it features a main character who is not conventionally attractive. I like the idea that not all protagonists must be statuesque beauties, and the idea that a conventionally handsome guy would be attracted to someone who most might deride as "ugly" or "basic." Unfortunately, there just isn't much to chew on with Assassin Roommate. Both characters are annoying, the dialogue is ridiculous, the faces are unpleasant to look at, and both the romance and comedy fall flat. There are moments where the art is quite nice, but otherwise the first three parts leave much to be desired. It's harmless, and I could see Monica improving.

#3 QUEEN PEGASUS by Boky B 👍
Queen Pegasus is an unfathomably gorgeous little read. Like, I fucking ADORE this art. It's be-au-tiful. While the lettering needs much improvement, the art and story have me intrigued. I wouldn't mind picking up a copy of this, assuming the lettering is overhauled because I could see it becoming grating.
