Bands You Should Try - ERUPTION

(By Melody Werner)

I listen to lots of music that's far outside of the mainstream--not because I think I'm better than anyone who doesn't or because all mainstream music is bad, or anything insufferable like that (my insufferability manifests in other ways); I simply enjoy finding stuff that deserves more attention than it has and spreading the word about it. And who else deserves as much attention as Eruption ought to have?

Romania is a nation that's not exactly known for heavy metal or thrash, but Eruption's is a name well worth knowing. If you're into either form of metal, you will find lots to love in their 2017 effort, Cloaks of Oblivion. The thing is wall-to-wall bangers with relentlessly crushing instrumentation and soaring vocals. Highlights are difficult to choose from when it's so consistently great, but you can't go wrong with "Drones" and "Reborn into Demise" if you're looking for just a taste to see if they're your speed when it comes to speedy thrash metal.

While this band is very underground and underrated for how inexplicably fun they are and how long they've been around (since 2004), they're thankfully still kicking around and working on their next LP. I'll be looking forward to it considering how strong their last one was and how it completely passed me by. Seriously. I have plans to review Cloaks of Oblivion, so expect more gushing about that when I announce my diabolical scheme, and I'll definitely be reviewing their next LP whenever it drops.

If you have a lesser known rock, punk, or metal band you think deserves some respect, shoot them my way in the comments and I'll be sure to check them out for a possible future installment of this segment.
