Bands You Should Try - THE CONJURING

(By Melody Werner)

I listen to lots of music that's far outside of the mainstream--not because I think I'm better than anyone who doesn't or because all mainstream music is bad, or anything insufferable like that (my insufferability manifests in other ways); I simply enjoy finding stuff that deserves more attention than it has and spreading the word about it. And who else deserves as much attention as The Conjuring ought to have?

The Conjuring as a thrash outfit very obviously owes much to classic, non-trash Slayer. They hail from Argentina, but you can totally tell that their greatest inspirations originated in Huntington Park (all of the user reviews on the Bandcamp page mention it, so I don't think it's a problem if I point it out to). That's not to say that The Conjuring is not worth listening to or a ripoff--The Conjuring does Slayer's shtick far better than Slayer itself has done lately, and Tortured Spirits (The Conjuring's 2016 debut LP) is an excellent, unholy thrash album perfect for raising glorious hell on your eardrums.

Though they have yet to follow Tortured Spirits up, Metal Archives lists them as currently active, so fingers crossed that we get a sophomore record--and no sophomore slump! Until then, I have no problems chanting "Blooooooooood!" with some devil horns. Massive, sinful fun.

If you have a lesser known rock, punk, or metal band you think deserves some respect, shoot them my way in the comments and I'll be sure to check them out for a possible future installment of this segment.
