REMEMBER ME review - Cu-rules
(Reviewed by Melody Werner)
Remember Me is a 2019 single by Australian progrock outfit Neo Relic. I found this song when I hopped onto the r/ShareYourMusic subreddit, where the official video had been posted by the band. Surprised by how much I enjoyed it, I decided to write this review so I can give my thoughts on it and hopefully encourage you to try for yourself.
What is most immediately apparent is that the band's vocalist and frontwoman, Deanna Curulli, is a natural. Her voice is compelling and she has great flows with the instrumentals. I can't find the lyrics credit on the Bandcamp page for Remember Me, but going by their only other release (2018's "I'm Blank," which I have yet to listen to), it is a safe bet to assume she also wrote the lyrics to RM. They're cool and varied, if you're someone who is annoyed by monotonous music.
The instrumentals shred pretty well, though I can't say that they are transcendental or anything. But that's forgivable when they're at this early point in their career and are already good. What's surprising is how listenable it is--which sounds like a low bar, so let me clarify. When you're trying out untested music on the Internet, it's always rolling the dice on how rough things will be. Neo Relic has some rock solid production already, is my point.
Remember Me is a good introduction to Neo Relic, I think. At time of writing, I haven't listened to I'm Blank yet, but I intend to review it as well once I do--and I hope to review anything else they come out with. I'm interested in seeing where they go from here, and I hope they catch heat soon. I do have a strong feeling that no matter what, Deanna will have staying power in the rock scene. She's got that spark. I dunno though, at this point, the Internet both makes it so easy to find something you enjoy--but it also means everyone is cordoned off from each other in these fiefdoms. So it can be difficult for everyone who could potentially be interested in an artist or band to discover them. But it does mean that bands that are--for instance--based in Melbourne can be listened to by some random dude in Florida, who will signal-boost them. Maybe even with a 4.5/5.
Awesome
Summary:
A tight song for a band so fresh into things. Good shit.

This is Deanna from the band. I never found this until now. What a read! I can't believe you enjoyed the tune that much - thank you!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard someone, apart from close family and friends, hold such high regard to my vocal and writing ability. That means a lot to someone who has flew under the radar for what seems like too long. It's safe to say that I've ventured on to other projects, including my own solo thing. Find me at Cammi Kol on Facebook if you'd like, as well as Before Envy and No Mud No Lotus.
Neo Relic have since disbanded but we have released another tune on Spotify. it's called "Bright Eyes".
Again, thank you for the kindest review I've read. I hope one day I get to perform for you, Florida dude.
All the best,
Deanna (Cammi)
