PLANET B review - There is no planet B!

(Reviewed by Melody Werner)
Planet B is the lead single from King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard's 2019 album, Infest the Rats' Nest. While KG&tLW is most well known for their psychedelic rock, ItRN as released by the Australian band's label, Flightless, takes the band in a new direction; namely thrash metal, though you still have elements of psychrock present throughout the album. I first heard of both the band and this album, like my other music reviews lately, via theneedledrop. He sold it to me, though I'm obviously not just gonna be reiterating his points since I have a different outlook on the album and came in with a different level of expectations, as this is my entry point to King Gizzard. Soooooo, this is a pretty much perfect entry point, because this song? It. Slaps!

While the song starts off a little odd, it quickly rockets into a pulse-pounding, chunky rock anthem with astounding instrumentals all around. Stu Mackenzie's vocals compliment the weighty, forceful instrumentals with the exact ferocity you'd want. What you may not expect from a band calling themselves King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is a song with serious political commentary--but I guess climate catastrophe scares the fuck out of everyone with a functioning heart and mind, and so here we are. Planet B has such genius lyrics; it's brilliant stuff. Perhaps not the most erudite, but fuck erudite. Now's a very good time to get loud and angry.

I am absolutely infatuated with Planet B right now. This is a kickass track you should try out if you have even the slightest interest in what King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are doing here. It definitely gives me big Red Rising vibes, but more on that in my review of the whole album... Planet B gets a 5/5.

Fantastic

Summary:
The perfect kickoff for a raucous environmentalist album like Infest the Rats' Nest. Listen to it, eh?
