Bands You Should Try - PALEHØRSE

(Reviewed by Melody Werner)

I listen to lots of music that's far outside of the mainstream--not because I think I'm better than anyone who doesn't or because all mainstream music is bad, or anything insufferable like that (my insufferability manifests in other ways); I simply enjoy finding stuff that deserves more attention than it has and spreading the word about it. And who else deserves as much attention as Palehørse ought to have?

Tampere, Finland's Palehørse are not a new band, even if they just released their self-titled debut back in April of 2019. Palehørse is the glorious continuation of prog metal act Amendfoil, who've been kicking around since 2007. And, oh boy, is it glorious. For starters--their hooks and choruses are stellar. They'll fuggin' ensnare you. "Odious" in particular. Lassi Mäki-Kala is a badass vocalist, and the instrumentation is crushing.

Palehørse is brilliant, and fantastic whether you're a metalhead looking for something slightly sweeter than your typical black metal opus all about ritualistically burning the soul of Jesus in a river of boiling piss or whatever--or if you're a newcomer yet to bask in the blood of the unborn (I joke, of course. more blood if you wait).

If you have a lesser known rock, punk, or metal band you think deserves some respect, shoot them my way in the comments and I'll be sure to check them out for a possible future installment of this segment.
